Syndicat d'Initiative

Grand-Place,  26
5060 Auvelais

This entity, watered by the Sambre and Biesme rivers and marked by its industrial past, has been converted into a semi-residential region. Unsuspected rural spots can still be found in the loops of Sambre river, which are Natura 2000 conservation areas. Sambreville is also very rich in culture, folklore and leisure activities. The entity boasts a festive and dynamic world of clubs and societies. Many festivals are organised here: the Auvelais Cavalcade, the Tamines carnival, the bonfire, the festivals of Wallonia and the festivals of the Sambre, as well as river cruises. Sambreville also has outstanding sites such as the Breton lighthouse in Auvelais and the cemetery of civilians shot in Tamines during the First World War. These listed sites recall the tragic days of 20, 21 and 22 August 1914 during the battle of the Sambre. They are linked by a commemorative route via the RAVeL network of non-motorised paths.
