Museum of cutlery and local life
Description
The Gembloux museum of cutlery exhibits a large collection of products from the cutlery industry. Gembloux was long considered the cutlery capital of Belgium. This activity probably started from the first half of the 13th century but remained a craft industry until the first half of the 19th century. In the early 20th century, the cutlery industry employed around 400 people here. Between the years 1970 and 1990, most of the factories unfortunately closed.
As for the museum of local life, it reflects the life of and in Gembloux from Ancient Times to the present day through a collection of items from the study and excavation of the Benedictine abbey of Gembloux (9th-18th centuries).
